The Warranty EX story

Picture of Ed Pattinson Warranty EX was founded in the summer of 2002 by entrepreneur Ed Pattinson. In July 2002 Ed broke his back in a bad fall, and found himself stuck in hospital for a total of 9 months. Trying to make the most of his time, Ed set about putting together Warranty EX (then called companyx), toing and froing between his hospital bed and the internet cafe at ASPIRE. Warranty EX launched in August 2003 and since then has grown rapidly to become the leading online appliance warranty specialist in the UK.

Prior to founding Warranty EX, Ed has worked as a consultant to Bill Gate's Teledesic® Satellite system, ran entrepreneurs forums around the UK, and also worked in one of London's venture capital houses. Ed graduated from Oxford University with an honours degree in Engineering, Economics, and Management.

In 2005 Warranty EX was acquired by Domestic & General, the UK's leading specialist provider of domestic appliance breakdown cover plans. Founded more than 50 years ago, Domestic & General now protects 6 million UK appliances.

Warranty EX now offers Domestic & General's insurance products, which meet the demands and needs of those who wish to ensure that their domestic electrical appliance is protected against the costs of repair or replacement in the event of a breakdown (provided payments are maintained).
