FAQ
What are extended Warranties?
Most appliances bought in the UK come with a manufacturer's guarantee, which typically lasts for 12 months and protects you against breakdowns or electrical faults. Purchasing a warranty is like 'upgrading' your guarantee and could give you:
- Cover that lasts for one or more years after the end of your guarantee.
- Additional cover not included in your guarantee, such as damage caused accidentally.*
With Warranty Ex you can also protect older products that are no longer covered by a manufacturer's guarantee. Our warranties are usually renewable on an annual basis and will pay for any repairs that need to be carried out, including labour and parts costs, by an approved local engineer.
*Cover for damage caused accidentally is only included in extended warranties taken up while the appliance is under the manufacturer's guarantee.
How do I get a quote on extended warranty?
At Warranty Ex we offer plans for a wide range of products and you can get a quote for one of these on this site by visiting the relevant product page (eg. washing machine, LCD television).
If you can't find the product you're looking for, please give us a call on 08444 810 500 (lines open 24 hours) as we may still be able to offer you a quote.
Why is my product not included in the appliance list provided?
We have grouped our products into four categories: TV & Audio; Kitchen Appliances; Portable Gadgets and Computers. If you can't find your product after checking in each of these category sections, please give us a call on 08444 810 500 (lines open 24 hours) as we may still be able to offer you a quote.
Is my appliance too old to be covered?
As long as it's less than eight years old and in good working order when you apply for cover, we'll cover it. Even better, cover is usually renewable annually thereafter – no matter how old your appliance gets!
I bought my appliance on eBay™. Can you cover it?
It doesn't matter where you purchased your product or even whether you bought it new - we'll cover any item that was purchased for use in the UK and is normally resident here.
It says in the Main Exclusions that damage from "impact" is excluded. I thought the plans cover Accidental Damage.
Damage caused by accident is included for plans purchased when the product was still under guarantee. "Impact" here refers to "malicious impact" e.g. hitting your appliance with a hammer.
What does a plan for my computer cover?
Plans for computers cover all labour, parts, and call out charges but do not include cover for hardware upgrades. Customers have access to a 24/7 customer support phone line although this does not include software support.
Am I covered if my product is stolen?
No. We deliberately provide access to plans which exclude additional types of cover like theft so that the saving can be passed onto you. A lot of home insurance policies will protect you against theft so we try to ensure you are not covered for anything twice or more unnecessarily.
What happens if I sell my product or give it away as a gift?
You can transfer your plan as long as you give Domestic & General written details of the new owner.
Do you offer any discounts if I buy more than one plan?
Yes. We offer discounts when you purchase warranties for three or more kitchen appliances, or three or more entertainment products (eg. plasma TV, DVD player etc). When you add plans to your shopping basket you will see if you qualify for any discount.
How can I be assured that it is completely safe to use my credit card?
If you buy your policy online, your transaction is processed using Verisign's Digital IDS technology ensuring the best possible security available.
When will I receive the policy?
Once the Purchase Confirmation Screen is displayed, you can print off a copy of the Confirmation Screen for your records. Following purchase the policy document will be mailed to you within 28 days.
How long does cover last?
If your appliance is still within the manufacturer's guarantee period then you can extend the guarantee to a total of 5 years, including the manufacturer's guarantee. If your appliance is outside the manufacturer's guarantee then you can only take out annual cover.
When any plan expires, you can normally continue to renew it on an annual basis for the rest of the useful life of the appliance.
What happens at the end of my plan?
Before your plan expires we will contact you to offer you a renewal quote so that you can have peace of mind for your appliance for another year.
How do I make a claim?
Call 08444 810 550 any time 24/7 to make a claim.
Will I have to pay more if I make lots of claims or have lots of repairs?
No! At Warranty Ex we want you to get the most from your electronics by claiming repairs whenever you need them. Your fee will never go up as a result of making claims on your plan.
What do you consider to be a reasonable period for a repair?
Most repairs are completed on the first visit but it can take longer to resolve an issue depending on its complexity, the availability of spare parts or the difficulty in identifying an intermittent fault.
Repairers of home entertainment equipment have to either return the product, if it has been taken away for tests, or make contact to update our customers of the situation within 5 working days, but we always appreciate customer feedback if you feel our service has been too slow.
If I have a problem, how long will a repairer take to arrive?
We would normally expect to send you an engineer within two working days, but we would discuss availability with you when you call to make a claim.
Can I use my own repairer?
All repairs are carried out by our network of approved repairers and unfortunately we are unable to consider requests to pay for repairs by anyone else.
By operating an engineer network we can be sure that repairs are carried out to the highest standards and that our engineers carry public liability insurance and up-to-date qualifications. Using our own network also helps us keep costs down as we don't have to spend time vetting repairers we don't know, thereby helping to keep our prices competitive for you.
What is your limit for a repair?
There are no set limits for each repair, but there is a total annual repair limit of £1500 per plan.
What happens if my product can't be fixed?
You could be eligible for a replacement product or a contribution towards a replacement. Please refer to the summary of cover for further details.
